SOHO has recently completed 11 years of almost continious observations of the Sun. This is the first time that we have available a comprehensive database of a full solar cycle of observations. Coronal mass ejections and flares have been two of the research areas where SOHO has made key contributions. In this talk, I review the state of our knowledge on the association between flares and CMEs and will discuss the contributions that we should expect from the SECCHI experiment on the STEREO mission.
