Constantinos E. Salmas

Dr. Chemical Engineer NTUA

Professor (Associate), Univ. of Ioannina

My name is Constantinos Salmas. I was born and raised in Greece in 1969. I finished high school and I succeded in joining the Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece via public examinations for entrance in Greek State Universities. In 1994, I obtained my first degree in Chemical Engineering (five-year studies which is equal to an MSc degree) and I got a scholarship from the Greek State Foundation of Scholarships for my PhD dissertation in the same department. Since 2004 I hold my PhD degree as a Dr. Chemical Engineer on Pore Structure of Materials. Three years before I was hired as a permanent research staff from the Chemical Process Engineering Laboratory, School of Chemical Engineering, NTUA, Greece. On 2014 I became a member of the Lab. & Teaching Staff of University of Patras in the Food Technology and the Plant Production Laboratories of the Department of Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Enterprises. On October 2017, I was elected as an Assistant Professor for the scientific topic of "Process Engineering on Materials" in the Dept. of Materials Sci. & Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Ioannina. Since April 12, 2023 I serve as Associate Professor on the same scientific topic, at the same Department of the same University. Briefly CV-data about me are reproduced below.

My Skill

I had my first research experience with "Process and Reactors" due to my diploma dissertation on deasphaltenation of crude oil using a spinning catalytic basket batch reactor. Sequentially, I received my PhD degree on Materials Pore Structure Simulation and Characterization combined Mercury and Nitrogen Porosimetry methods (Development of the integrated CPSM model). When I was a PhD candidate I participated the research group of the NTUA for the design, construction and test of a pilot scale rotary kiln allothermal gasifier under a research project funded by the Greek country. After my PhD thesis I joined a research group as a Post-Doc fellow for the design, construction and test of a pilot scale apparatus (100 lt liquid batch) for the recovery of Scandium and Rare Earths from an industrial waste the so-called red mud. My last participation in big scale project was with the European RFC-CR-03009 project for the validation of the pilot scale rotary kiln gasifier and the comparison of it with other gasification systems. This research was also for the investigation about the multiple purposes we could use such a system.
