Training in Haematology
Trainees are offered multiple educational opportunities such as daily educational medical ward round, weekly seminars with participation of invited speakers, compulsory attendance of the 2-year educational program of the Hellenic Society of Haematology, http://www.eae.gr/new2/index.asp (web-based), The School of Haematology of the Hellenic Society of Haematology Foundation (http://idelhema.gr/), journal clubs, participation in national and international meetings and conferences and active participation in clinical trials conducted in the Department.
To reinforce the educational process and the consolidation of the knowledge and the skills acquired during the 4-year training, we are imposing exams and educational presentations every four months for the residents of the department. Exams are held the 2nd fortnight of January, May and September.
The Department of Haematology, University of Ioannina follows the recommendations of the European Haematology Association and the Hellenic Society of Haematology for a harmonized basic Curriculum for the specialist training of haematologists.
The CV Passport is an itemized description of what constitutes a well-rounded hematological training recommended by national and international societies and organizations of hematology. The first version of the Passport was launched in 2005.

In 2011, this version has been revised. The CV Passport was created and updated through a bottom-up process involving national societies for hematology in Europe, including the Hellenic Society of haematology.

Undergraduate LessonsA) Clinical training
The Department of Haematology welcomes for clinical training 4th year medical students, for a 4-week period in the subject of “Nosology”. During this period, students observe and participate in the clinical activities from 8:30 AM to 12:00 (noon).
The educational program is as follows:
8:30 AM to 10:00, AM, the students attend regular clinical duties attached to the τrainees in rotation per week.
10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: The students are offered introductory lectures to clinical nosology and clinical practice in groups of four. On Fridays, they participate in educational discussions of clinical cases.
11:00 to 12:00 participation the daily ward round.
B) Elective Course “Leukemias”
This is an 18 teaching hours elective course that is offered to a group of 5 to 20 students who elect to attend during their 5th year of their studies. Teaching faculty is Dr E. Briasoulis, Associate Professor of Oncology, Dr E. Kapsali, Assistant Professor of Haematology, Dr E. Hatzimichael, Haematologist MD/PhD, Aggeliki Dasoula PhD and G. Vartholomatos PhD.
