We are seeking two (2) talented PhD Students who will work on projects relevant to the molecular pathogenesis of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), sporadic pulmonary Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and related cancers, with emphasis on drug discovery and the mitotic regulation of mTOR. For more information on the projects, click here.

The individuals will have the opportunity to play a pioneering role in these projects. Creativity, critical thinking, and enthusiasm are more important than prior technical expertise. Individuals with some experience in mammalian cell culture and basic biochemistry/cell biology techniques will be preferred. Responsibilities include literature overview, designing and conducting experiments (mammalian cell culture, drug library screening, cell-based assays, microsopy, immunoblotting etc), data acquisition, analysis and interpretation, and presentations in lab meetings and in seminars. Additional duties include general laboratory organization and preparation of reagents.

Our team is part of the Laboratory of Biological Chemistry, School of Medicine, and is located in the University of Ioannina campus.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Medicine, or related field. Exceptional organizational and communication skills, computer literacy, and fluency in English are required.

Interested candidates should contact the principal investigator (PI) Aristotelis Astrinidis directly by e-mail at: aastrin@cc.uoi.gr

To apply: Submit by e-mail a current Curriculum Vitae (including list of publications), a one-page personal statement, and names and contact information of three (3) referees who will provide recommendation letters.

We are seeking undergraduate research assistants to participate in cancer research projects. These projects aim to elucidate novel functions of the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway pertaining to cell division, autophagy, and drug discovery.

The ideal candidates would be highly motivated, detail-oriented, with genuine interest in biological processes related to human disease. With the immediate supervision of the principal investigator (PI), students are expected to conduct experiments (applying molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and microscopy techniques), analyze, interpret and report data, study relevant literature, and participate in lab meetings.

Basic laboratory experience (preparation of buffers, liquid handling, lab safety) and computer skills (MS Office, literature search) are required.
