The Laboratory of Applied Metallurgy (METAL-LAB) of the Materials Science and Engineering Department of the University of Ioannina (UoI) was established in 2004 offering high quality education and research to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Permanent staff includes:

METAL-LAB's scopes are:

Research and development in the fields:
- Development, heat treatment and characterization of metallic materials (engineering alloys, superalloys, advanced coatings, intermetallics, metastable materials, metal matrix composites, high entropy alloys),
- Behaviour of metallic materials in aggresive enviromental conditions (ambient and high temperature corrosion, wear behaviour)
Training of students in the fundamental principles of physical metallurgy and corrosion/ protection of metals
Familiarization of students with common metal treatments applied to the industry
